About Festival for the Future

A regional guide to discovering festivals across Aotearoa New Zealand, with a strong focus on culture, community and place.

Why this site exists

Festival for the Future is designed to make it easier to discover festival experiences across Aotearoa New Zealand in one place. Instead of forcing people to search city by city or jump between disconnected event pages, the site brings together festivals by region so visitors can explore what is happening around the motu in a more useful and readable way.

The directory pays particular attention to Maori and Pasifika culture, alongside music, food, arts and community events. That focus matters because many of the most important festival experiences in Aotearoa are grounded in whakapapa, language, performance, collective identity and regional cultural life. The goal is not only to list events, but to help people discover the richness of festival culture in a way that reflects the country more honestly.

All regions are part of that story. From Auckland and Wellington to Northland, Taranaki, Otago and Southland, the site is built to cover the full breadth of New Zealand festival life. Te reo Maori is used naturally throughout the site as part of everyday Aotearoa language and context, rather than being added as decoration.
