NZ Youth Award Leadership Recipient, outstanding community leader

Latayvia cares about the wellbeing of people and communities. She is driven by a desire to see Aotearoa / New Zealand thrive. At 19 years of age, this compassionate teen is a regular volunteer at Mount Eden prison, the James Liston Hostel (emergency housing), the Christmas appeal at the Ranui Caravan Park, and also transports hospital patients requiring assistance to church service. Latayvia is an advocate for getting others involved. She provides transport for community projects and does fundraising for the Women’s Correctional Facility in Wiri, collecting thousands of pieces of stationery for the wahine / women there. She recently joined the Whau Youth Board. Outside of volunteering and creating platforms for youth, Latayvia uses her voice to raise awareness and uplift others, emceeing feminist hui for the Auckland Young Feminists (a group that she helped launch), winning speech competitions for the National Council of Women and the PACIFICA inc West Auckland, both of which, she is also a member.
