Co-founder and strategic director for Manama Ahi

Merenia is co-founder and strategic director for Manama Ahi, a community of young New Zealanders who invest their time and talent in the hope of justice being realised on a global and local scale. Her interest in the racial division and fragmentation of New Zealand was informed by her studies at Victoria University of Wellington. As a delegate, Merenia represented New Zealand at The United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues earlier this year. Merenia has discussed her passion for building bridges between cultures, saying that it is “what I want to do for the rest of my life”.  In 2015 she was appointed as the first Maori World Vision ambassador and worked on encouraging Maori participation in charitable outreach such as the 40 Hour Famine. In 2017, Merenia received a New Zealand Youth Award for leadership.
