Representing New Zealand on the world stage for Rugby and standing up for equality
TJ Perenara, 27, is of Māori decent (Te Arawa, Ngāti Rangitihi) and is a professional athlete. TJ started his career playing rugby for Mana College and Northern United Rugby Club in his hometown of Porirua. From there he went on to represent New Zealand in the New Zealand School’s competition and the New Zealand Under 20’s competition.
TJ now plays for the Wellington Lions, Hurricanes and the New Zealand All Blacks. Sports is in TJ’s blood, with his Dad Thomas Perenara representing New Zealand in the Black Sox softball team, and his mother and grandmother also playing softball for New Zealand. This is TJ’s first-time attending Festival for the future with his wife Greer Perenara.
